Our philosophy

Zarina exists for the prescriptions that do not fit the box. A dose that is not made commercially. A tablet a patient cannot swallow. A flavour a cat will actually take. A medication whose retail price puts it out of reach. Each of those is a different problem, and each is the reason a compounding and specialty pharmacy exists.

One prescription at a time

Every compounded preparation we dispense is made for one named patient, against one prescription, from one prescriber. We do not compound to stock and we do not compound on speculation. That is slower than the alternative, and it is the only way the preparation in the bottle matches the person on the label.

A pharmacist reads every prescription

Nothing is dispensed on an order form alone. A pharmacist reviews each prescription before anything is prepared, and before any payment is taken — which is why our checkout asks for a prescription rather than a card, and why the card comes later, once a pharmacist has approved what was asked for. If something is wrong, unclear, or looks like it needs a conversation with the prescriber, we have that conversation.

Price is a clinical issue

A medication a patient cannot afford is a medication a patient does not take. That is why our retail catalogue lists the average US retail price beside our own, on every line, without asking anyone to request a quote first. We would rather be checked than trusted.

Plain answers

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and we say so on every page that lists one. We would rather explain what that means than leave it out. If a commercially manufactured product would serve a patient better than a compounded one, that is the honest answer and it is the one you will get.

Animals are patients too

Our veterinary preparations are formulated for the species taking them, not scaled down from a human dose — flavoured chews, transdermal gels and dosing forms that make it possible for an owner to finish a course of treatment at home.
