Most prices are already published. The retail medications catalogue lists our price and the average US retail price on every line, so for anything in it there is nothing to quote — look it up.

A quote is for the preparations that have to be made rather than picked off a shelf.

What we need to price a compounded preparation

• The active ingredient.
• The strength or concentration you need.
• The dosage form — capsule, cream, solution, troche, chew, transdermal gel.
• The quantity.
• For an animal: the species and current weight.

You do not need the prescription in hand to get a price.

How to ask

• Call 832-886-4296. A pharmacist can usually price a straightforward preparation while you are on the phone.
• Or fax 832-886-4298. Useful if you already have the prescription in hand. Please do not fax card numbers.

For prescribers

Ask before you write it. We will tell you what a formulation will cost your patient and whether it is achievable and stable — usually a shorter conversation than a rewrite. See the prescriber form or the veterinarian form.

What a quote is not

A price is not a clinical opinion, and it is not a commitment to dispense. A pharmacist still reviews the prescription when it arrives, and we will say so if a compounded preparation is not the right answer for the patient.

Compounded medications are not FDA-approved. They are dispensed only on a valid, patient-specific prescription from a licensed prescriber.
