Transfer a prescription
If a prescription with refills left on it is sitting at another pharmacy, we can usually move it here for you. You do not need to collect anything or ask your prescriber to write it again — pharmacies transfer prescriptions between themselves directly.
What we need from you
- The name of the pharmacy holding the prescription, and its phone number if you have it.
- The medication — the name on the label, and the strength if you can read it.
- The prescription number from the label, if it is to hand. Helpful, not essential.
- The patient’s name and date of birth, so both pharmacies can identify the right record.
How to start one
Any of these:
- Call 832-886-4296 — the fastest route. We will take the details and make the call to the other pharmacy while you are on the line if we can.
- Fax 832-886-4298 if you have a copy of the label.
What happens next
- We contact the other pharmacy and ask them to release the prescription.
- A pharmacist here reviews it, exactly as we would a new prescription.
- We tell you what it will cost before we dispense it, and take payment after a pharmacist has approved it.
Most transfers complete within one business day. If the other pharmacy is slow to release it we will tell you rather than leave you waiting.
What cannot be transferred
- A prescription with no refills remaining — that needs a new one from your prescriber, and we can request it for you.
- An expired prescription.
- Certain controlled substances, where state and federal rules limit transfers. [TO CONFIRM: state which schedules you can and cannot accept, for the state you are licensed in.]
- A prescription for a commercially manufactured product we do not stock. Ask us — we will tell you honestly rather than transfer it and sit on it.
If you would rather start fresh
Ask your prescriber to send a new prescription, or create an account and upload one yourself.
